Rio is a chapter on its own… so I let have its own post in my blog!
I went all alone to Rio to experience the beautiful city. I have never made a trip that is just supposed to be for fun by myself before so I used this great project Couchsurfing that I told you about before. It is a great way of meeting people.
DAY 1
I couple of weeks before I talked with some people about what to visit, one guy offered to go with me to Pão de Açucar. I went by bus to Rio de Janeiro and he even offered to pick me up at the bus station. And the night before another guy from Singapore also from couchsurfing called me and said that he is going to stay at the same place as me and he will arrive to the bus station an hour before me… so I offered him to go together with us.
The first day we arrived around 6 am and went to our host’s place and left our things before we went to Pão de Açucar. This was our transport to Pão de Açucar…
haha just kidding… not quite…
…this was kind of how our transport there looked like.
Pão de Açucar means sugarloaf or “Sockerbröd” if you translate it and is to very big and steep mountains close to the sea. It is very fascinating and really worth to see. You can also hike there and to the Christ statue too even though it seems to be impossible when you are standing on the ground.
The view is really magnificent!!!
On this picture you can see the Christ statue on the top of a hill far away on the right side of the picture.
Me and Marcos on Pão de Açucar
Marcos and Daniel
That night we were supposed to go to a Samba class with our couch-host, Carlos. But his very good friend’s dog was lost, so Daniel and I went with him to look for the dog… I didn’t even have time to brush my hair so I brought my hairbrush… Now that is like an internal joke… Me and my hairbrush… we are never separated!!! Haha!! My best friend even told me that she doesn’t know anyone that brushes her hair as much as I do… haha!!
Later that night, me and the Singapore-guy, Daniel went out and had very interesting conversations about everything and nothing!
DAY 2
Daniel and I went the Copacabana beach, the most famous beach in Rio, where all the beautiful people go to swim, workout etc. But as it was a Wednesday it was not very much people on the beach, besides it was not very good weather either (but no rain).
The famous Copacabana-pattern on the ground
Daniel is eating Queijo de Coalho - popular cheese that doesn't melt when grilled. Similair to Haloumi cheese in Sweden and England
I bought shrimps on the beach, and the stupid guy tried to trick me about the price, just because I’m a tourist. I know Portuguese and I’m NOT stupid, even though my hair is blonde… ;) Anyway, the stupid man told me that it costs 6 reais… which is “seis” in Portuguese and is pronounced like “sejs” (that is more than I payed in Salvador). I was alright with the price and gave him 10 reais which is “dez” in Portuguese and is pronounced like “dejs” so it is very similar (but I know the difference). So he just took my money and wished me a good day… I got a little bit angry that he tried to trick me so I told him: “No, no, no, you said “seis reais” in Portuguese and he protested but eventually I got my money. It is not a lot of money, but I don’t think it is very nice to do that to someone because they don’t know the language very well…
Copacabana
Beautiful!!
That night was a quite interesting night. We were waiting for a guy on couchsurfing to take us out but he just never called so we bought some wine and cheese and after that we decided to not wait anymore… So where did we go??? As we couldn’t come in to the club I wanted to go to because Daniel had a top that didn’t cover his shoulders we decide to go to a gay club… hahaNot a gay club with girls and everything, it was just gay guys… So as I didn’t look like a transsexual (at least I really hope everyone understood that I’m a girl… I would die if anyone thought I was a guy!!!!), I had to pay three times more to get in there!!! But haha, it was interesting!!
It was a famous transsexual on the stage doing a comedian thing… and stripers dancing later on the night!! Very good looking stripers… haha!! And I also met a Amy Winehouse… haha!!!
Amy Winehouse was cool!!
Even though it was a gay-club, two guys came to me with their numbers… haha unbelievable!! But still I was dead scared that anyone thought that I was a man. I saw a transsexual that really looked like a girl in there, the gays in there didn’t think she looked like a girl, but to me she did… so I got worried… haha!!
DAY 3
The last day in Rio de Janeiro I went (of course) to the famous Christ Statue!! I can just not leave Brazil before I have seen this amazing statue. It is really cool, a big statue of Christ made of stone on the top of a really high and steep mountain. My friend Berta asked her friend to take me there. And he knew a lot of history so it was really good!!
We also saw wild apes! It is pretty amazing to see wild apes!!
And they played with the people, in a way that was just fun for them. They were nice, they were not evil or anything but they made fun of us. They through pieces of tree on us, frightened the people that were close and it really looked like they were laughing when the people suddenly screamed a little bit and jumped back to avoid them. One ape even threw shit on my tour guide!!! And that ape looked pretty happy afterwards haha!!

In the woods we also found sacrifices (offergåvor) that someone gave to the weird dudes in the woods… hmm, I wonder who is living there that likes maize corn…?
The weird looking fruit is Jaka… it is big fruit with a lot of small thorns. It is good very sweet, if you ever come across one, you should really try!!!!
This is the soft type of Jaka... I like the other type better... But this is also good. You get very full of it!!!
The last night in Rio, me, Daniel and Carlos (our host) went to a couchsurfing meeting it was a lot of fun to meet all those people that also are so interested in meeting new people.
Then Day 4… I went back to Salvador...
